Diary of an antique dealer

Arthur Dooley

To day 18th April 2009 I was visited by Paul Mc Givern a gentleman from Liverpool looking for an investment for his four children.

Because the interest rate has fallen so low, we all know banks / building societies are paying very little interest to customers at this present time. The public are looking for new ways to invest their money. As usual Works of art and antiques become  the number one investment route. Trust also has now become a new issue with people. The public are not trusting their money deposited in the banking world. The horrific stories of Northern Rock and the banks in Iceland comes to mind.

By investing in an antique or work of art you get the enjoyment and appreciation of the item as well as watching your investment appreciate in value.

Paul found out about theantiquesman through the Internet. Watching each day what the van brought in ( GIVE WAY TO  VANS) .

Paul and his wife jointly decided to invest a good some of their savings by purchasing 4 sculptures in bronze by the famous Liverpool artist Arthur Dooley.

A Nude, A Horse, Man and his dog and the forth another Horse figure.

Arthur became a friend of mine in the mid 60s after buying an old typewriter from me.

After leaving the army and his very colorful life in the Irish Guards Arthur turned away from his first love the beer bottle, to becoming an artist and creating beauty out of scrap metal.

He became famous at the time of the Beatles creating works of art for the Church. His most famous pieces are the Stations of the Cross in Leyland Lancashire.

The photograph shows the delight in Paul's face as we shake hands over me accepting Paul's offer.

I also have a smile on my face.....after all I also have made money out of my investment.
