Even the Church is now selling off unwanted items |
Wed 15th April 2009
It has been a long day, First it was the funeral of my good friend Brian Farnworth the clock maker from Wigan. A good turn out the Vicar said. 200 plus people attended and that did not include the traffic wardens putting tickets on car wind screens like it was flier's advertising for a car wash.. It was a bit unusual the funeral started out from a pub, The Charles Dickens. Then ended up at St Andrews after parading around Wigan.
When I switched my phone on after the service I had a message from a man of the cloth.
Just bought a magnificent Gothic carved oak pulpit.
May be everyone has heard the message by now and there is no need for a pulpit.
I also have bought a Tabernacle, candle sticks and a crucifix from a church designed by Pugin. The alter looks so funny once this major centre piece had been removed. Pugin became a Roman Catholic and from then on decided to design and build a church inclusive of the interior for under £1600. Now it was in the 1800's. Pugin is remembered for designing the Houses of Parliament and in this part of the world Scarisbrick Hall (now a school) and St Marie's on the Sands in Southport still a church.
