Just packed a shipment for Peru from the warehouse in Chicago
I am in the USA with temperatures between 80-95
It would seem the Global recession has hit the Northern States worse than the Southern States.
It is so sad to drive around and see all the estate agent sales signs up reading "For sale By Bank" Even the adverts on TV tell people who can not afford their mortgage payment to ask the bank to reduce the interest rates to help them make a payment.
Large shopping Malls have plenty of shops for rent. Main road shops are also empty offering inexpensive rents per sq ft. I have even see supermarkets closed and lots of Car Dealerships vacant. Amoco gas (petrol) stations where every were but since BP's so called amalgamation with them the brand was labeled BP. WHAT A MISTAKE. With the problems with the leakage of oil into the Gulf the American people are boycotting BP. Even the comedians on TV are Fueling this problem by telling jokes about BRITISH PETROLIUM.
Gold is now very high, much higher than it was in the 80's yet silver is incredibly less than it was when the Bunker Hunt Brothers tried to buy the worlds silver in the 80's the $ is in the mid range of one pound to two pound.
You may say what has this to do with ANTIQUES.................
These are good signs for the antique trade..... The same signs as what we saw in 1976
Well 1st I can see that Silver will double in the next year and at the same time a large increase with the awareness of people realising that the planet has to be saved from global heating.......
Recycling will be the in thing
Recycling is going to be THE Global Word.
The World economy has to be saved as well as saving the planet. Recycling will become the way.
We have to stop or tax the people who are responsible for cutting the trees and forests down. Example NEW FURNITURE MAKERS who are forcing and manipulating us to be a throw away society. With new styles making what we own look out of style.
To day it is called minimalism tomorrow it is called Trashism.
We tax tobacco, alcohol, two other products that society has no use for. (I bet I will get a lot of stick for saying that) So we should tax New Furniture.
Antiques are completely green product.
We the antique dealers have been the recyclers of the planets furniture and unwanted goods for generations. WE ARE THE BRAND LEADERS OF RECYCLEING. Yet we do not get the recognition we deserve. We also do not push this idea. Instead we complain that people do not want brown furniture... Then wake up paint it white.
Don't be the purist looking at an antique and turning your nose up because it has a leg repaired or the top has been flipped or changed or a cabinet is a marriage.
Remember Mr or Mrs Purist it used to be a tree.
Take my dinning room table in my house as an example.
It is made of oak tree that was possibly growing in the 13th/14th century. It probably was part of a ship in the 15th/16th century and then in the 17th century taken within a house. That was the wording for recycling of wood when building a new house. Then in the 18th/19th century people used the wood from houses being pulled down and with it repair and made furniture with the wood.
Now that is true recycling. Incidentally in 1983 I built my own home, it is completely a recycled home with everything from the floor to the roof recycled.
Well....... I am proposing to open Auction Houses in the US to auction our ENGLISH recycling products. Our Antiques.
Now in the deep South of the USA
