Diary of an antique dealer

Chinese Shipment |
Yan Chang is seen here with John Nolan with an ancient Chinese jar between 2500 years and 3000 years old.
Mr Yan flew in from China on a QUEST.
Scotland was his first choice to find and buy Chinese antiques. He found very little. Then he did find the centre of the antiquestrade in the heart of Southport. Southport is located 20 miles north of the Port of Liverpool. For the last 150 years the Liverpool population has been moving north. As the people of Liverpool moved to places like Hightown, Formby, Freshfield, Ainsdale and Birkdale they brought their artifact that had been acquired from generations of seafarers with them. Some of theses items came from all parts of the world. Today they have now become antiques.
Since the 18th century the English have fallen in love with Chinese design. The most famous is probably Chinese Chippendale furniture and of cause the blue and white china cups and saucers. The famous Willow pattern comes to mind eventhough not chinese. So it is no coincidence that I had in stock well over 80 items for Mr Jan to view. He was so delighted. The deal was done in less than an hour. I will now supervise the packing, shipping, paper work and the liaison with the Chinese Government and Customs. A nice end to the week. |
