John Nolan the antiques man bringing antiques into the 21st century
Over the past 45 years, John Nolan has built up a clientele that has spread across the globe which includes a U.S President, Film and Pop Stars, and famous musicians; 'A' list celebrities, and sport personalities.
John opened his first shop in the mid 60s in Birkenhead (England). By the end of the 60s he had shops both in Liverpool and Manchester. In 1976 John opened his first branch in the U.S.A in the heart of Atlanta Georgia in Colony Square known as Jimmy Carter's presidential election headquarters. Over the next 20 years John's import and export business grew with warehouses and show rooms located on the famous Peachtree Road, Roswell Road and Miami Circle, exporting millions of pounds worth of antiques worldwide supplying over 1500 antique dealers, auctioneers and interior designers in the United States alone. John was the first to introduce THE STRIPPED PINE LOOK and the distressed look in furniture to the interior design market, and to export unusual items like the red G.P.O. telephone box, the double decker bus, a London black taxi, parts of buildings and even a gypsy covered wagon to the U.S. His vast knowledge of the antique market on both sides of the Atlantic and a natural talent for interior design enabled him to supply department stores such as Macey's and Davidsons. John also worked extensively with famous brand names in the U.S.A such as Ralph Lauren and Ruby Tuesday where he provided the visual effects for their exclusive establishments as well as supplying effects for movies and the film industry. Working closely with producers and directors and people like Johnny Cash.
In 1983 John bought the Halsall Manor which had been the family seat of the Halsall family in Lancashire England and over the next 20 years he painstakingly restored the Manor, rebuilt Halsall Hall to it's former glory. Parts of the building dated back to pre. 1500's. It had been the home of the Lord Mayor of Liverpool in the late 1500s. John has also restored the 16th century Tithe barn, including building an exclusive development of 15 executive homes. He also restored the Coach House which is now his proud home. On completion, the project won a prestigious award in England with Lancashire County Council.
In 1995 John set up The Southport Antique Centre in the heart of Southport, just 20 miles north of Liverpool and The China Outlet with 100,000 items of china, pottery, ceramics etc. John Nolan is married to Shiva who has had a singing carrier which included singing at the opening of "Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008". John, a father of six, a member of the Baha'i faith and a local celebrity appearing regularly on T.V. with personalities like David Dickinson was also featured in Autumn 2007 edition of HIGHLIFE magazine. He is regularly involved in Charity Fundraising for Kidney Fund, Cancer Research and the Life Boat Fund. LINKS TO SOME OF THE STORIES.
