John was the first person to introduce stripped pine furniture to the interior design market, and to export the first red G.P.O. telephone box, double decker buses, London black taxi, and even a gypsy covered wagon to the U.S. His vast knowledge of antiques and a natural talent for interior design enabled him to supply departments' stores such as Macey's. John also worked extensively with famous brand names in the U.S.A such as Ralph Lauren and Ruby Tuesday where he provided the visual effects for their exclusive establishments.
Liverpool
In 1985, John found himself in his home town of Liverpool taking on a major rebuilding and restoration of the family seat of Sir.Cuthbert Halsall known as Halsall Hall. The building dated back to the 1500's where it was the home of the Lord Mayor of Liverpool. The work was completed in the 1990's including the Tithbarn and the Coach House which now is the home of 15 families. On completion the project won a prestigious award with Lancashire County Council.
Antiquestrade in Southport
Ten years ago John opened the Southport Antique Centre in the heart of the elegant seaside town of Southport which is located 20 miles north of the city and port of Liverpool which has become known as the European Capital of Culture 2008. As the antiques trade has moved into the 21st Century, John has put together under one roof a number of top British antique dealers under the banner of antiquestrade.org. John manages and runs the organisation himself.
